Sonipat BSNL Staff charge-sheeted

MARCH 07, 2005 : SONEPAT: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has charge-sheeted two of its employees Narinder Kumar a old Commercial officer and Rajesh, JTO of the Switch Room of the main telephone exchange Sonepat in connection with the racket of ISD and calls worth several lakhs of rupees by some ISI agents of Pakistan during the last year.

The racket was detected on December 17 last year when the record of telephones allotted to the ISI agents was checked by the officials, official sources said here on Monday.


It was revealed that the ISI agents has made telephone calls to the tune of Rs. Seven lakhs during the period of about one month and all the calls were made to Saudi Arabia, Israel, Kuwait and other countries where the ISI agents of Pakistan were operating.


There after, the officials became alerted and they made these telephones one-way and reported the case to the police.


When the police sung into action, the ISI agents managed to departure after vacating the house and taking the equipment from it.

Unsolicited calls on mobile: SC issues notice
FEB 7: Harassed by constant unsolicited calls on your mobile phones from various banks for a loan or credit cards? Rejoice. The Supreme Court today issued notices to the Centre and all cellular operators and multi-national banks on a PIL seeking a law to ban such "uncalled for" calls.
 
Reliance Infocomm denies charges of `Mahajan link'

Feb. 14, 2005 : RELIANCE Infocomm (RIC) said that allegations of a `Mahajan link' in investments in the company are totally fictitious. This transaction has nothing to do with Mr Pramod Mahajan and any insinuation to the contrary is totally mischievous and motivated, a statement from the company said. Mr Mahajan was Union Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications in the previous government.The statement said: "RIC clarifies that no politician or bureaucrat at any moment of time, has held or holds any shares of Reliance Info.



Ring tones means money for mobile industry

14, 2005 : NEW DELHI: Juhi Bawa dialled four digits on her flashy mobile phone and whispered her name into it. Within seconds a computer application converted her voice into a peppy ring tone.

The service christened "Tooki Ringtones" was one of the latest innovations offered.

Users will be charged about Rs.10 (22 cents) for composing their own ring tones by dialling "6677" from any mobile phone. The service is not model specific.

 
DOT pulls up BSNL for giving mobility to fixed phones
FEBRUARY 13, 2005 : NEW DELHI: Government has sought clarifications from state-owned BSNL for alleged use of fixed wireless terminal/phones to provide mobile PCO facility in some parts of the country, and has asked the PSU to reply within seven days.

“It seems that fixed wireless terminal, which is being used in the CDMA based network of BSNL, is being deployed to provide mobile PCO facility in trains and at stations,” DoT said in the notice adding that the locations of fixed wireless phones cannot be changed and any mobility would amount to limited mobility facility or full mobility service.
