Bharat Sanchar Nigam Umited, formed in October 2000, is the world's 7th largest
telecommunications company providing a comprehensive range of telecom services in India
including wireline, COMa mobile, GSM mobile, Internet, carrier services, VolP services,
VPN, Broad- band, etc. BSNLis the largest telecom PSU, other than oil companies in India.
BSNL provides quality telecom services in the country and is now focusing on improving it,
expanding the network, and introducing new telecom services and new applications in
villages and winning the customer's confidence.BSNL today has
a 45 million basic telephone capacity, around 37500 exchanges, about 500,000 Rkm of
microwave network connecting 593 cities, 5600 towns and 5.5 lakh villages. The company has
vast experience in the planning, installation, network integration, and main- tenance of
switching and transmission networks. BSNL also has a world class ISO 9000 certified
telecom-training institution across the nation.
BSN L started its cellular service in 2002 and is today the largest
GSM service provider (in its own license area) with more than 15.3 million cellular
subscribers.
BSNL has more than 35.1 million landline (85% market share)
customers, 2.2 million WLL customers, 2.3 million Internet (largest ISP) customers and
0.41 million broadband customers. The company plans to expand its customer base from the
present 47 million lines to 125 million lines by December 2007 and it has robust
financials to support these plans.
BSNL had a turnover of USD 8 billion in year 2004-05 with a net
profit of USD 2.26 billion. BSNL has planned an infrastructure investment to the tune of
USD 16.67 million in the next three years. |
